Something changed in mobile development over the last eighteen months, and honestly, most businesses haven't caught up to it yet. The biggest trend in app development right now isn't a new framework or a shinier design language. It's that AI has moved inside the development process itself — writing code, testing it, and then living on inside the app to personalize what every user sees.
We build apps every week at our mobile app development studio in Gurugram, and the difference between how we worked in 2024 and how we work today is bigger than the previous five years combined. Here's what's actually going on — minus the buzzwords.
AI-assisted coding isn't hype anymore. It's the default.
When Google put Gemini directly inside Android Studio, something shifted. The tooling now generates boilerplate, spots bugs before a human reviewer would, suggests fixes, and writes test cases. Independent roundups of Android development trends have called out the same thing we see daily: AI in the editor is "generating code, analyzing data, and suggesting best practices" — and the honest result is that a well-run team ships noticeably faster than it did two years ago.
What does that mean for you as a buyer? Timelines and budgets that used to be fixed are negotiable again. If an agency quotes you 2024-era timelines at 2024-era prices without mentioning AI in their workflow, you're paying for their inefficiency. Apps that adapt to you, not the other way around
The second shift is happening inside the apps themselves. Static screens — where every user sees the same interface — are starting to feel dated. With on-device machine learning, apps can now rearrange themselves around how you actually use them: surfacing the feature you open every morning, simplifying flows you struggle with, anticipating what you'll need next. Netflix and Spotify trained everyone to expect this. In 2026, Indian users expect it from your app too.
The good news: on-device ML means this doesn't require shipping user data to a server, which matters a lot under India's DPDP regime. Personalization and privacy stopped being enemies.
Write once, run everywhere — finally true enough
Cross-platform frameworks have been promising "one codebase, both platforms" for a decade. The difference now is that the promise mostly holds. For the majority of business apps, Flutter or React Native gets you iPhone and Android at roughly 60% of the dual-native cost, without the compromises that used to bite. And then there's the super app question
India practically invented the modern super app playbook — look at how payments, shopping, travel and chat collapsed into single ecosystems here. That consolidation is now reaching mid-size businesses: instead of three separate apps for booking, payments and support, companies are unifying them into one product with shared login and data. It's cheaper to maintain and dramatically better for retention. If your business runs multiple customer touchpoints, this is worth a serious conversation — ideally with a team that also does custom software development, because super apps are as much backend as they are app.
So what should you actually do?
If you're planning an app this year: ask every agency you evaluate how AI fits their development process, insist on on-device personalization being in the roadmap (even if v1 ships without it), and default to cross-platform unless someone gives you a hard technical reason not to. The teams that embraced this shift are shipping better apps, faster, for less. The ones that didn't are quoting you their learning curve.
